Advanced Swedish Massage
March 28/29, 2010

This course starts off with the history of Per Henrik Ling and the birth of Swedish Massage in accordance to findings made in the original early writings of Ling and others. The first portion of the class will also cover body dynamics. During practice throughout the entire course emphasis will be kept on student’s body dynamics. A thorough demonstration is done of the basic five massage strokes and the Swedish adaptations of them where little or no thumbs are used. Most of the time in class is spent with the students practicing the demonstrated techniques. Further techniques of ischemic muscle pressure and different connective tissue strokes are included. At the end of the course the students will be challenged to perform learned techniques with earplugs and blindfolds to bring all senses to the hands.

By the end of the course the student will be able to explain who P.H. Ling was, demonstrate the application of the five basic Swedish strokes as performed in Sweden, use the body to save energy and prevent overuse and injury, incorporate how to massage saving the thumb joints, perform a massage projecting all senses to the hands and utilize many new strokes.
