Warm Herbal Poultice Massage

Warm herbal poultices, which have been used in many ancient cultures, are the newest treatment offered in modern spas. In this class students will learn a new massage using herbal poultices, as well as background information about the herbs used in different cultures so that students will be able to make their own poultices. The instructor will include information on historical use of herbal poultices in the Thai, Indian, and Native American cultures, sources for supplies, effects on the body including the lymphatic system, contraindications, health and safe preparation of herbal poultices.

While the purpose of herbal poultice massage is to stimulate the circulatory system, including the lymphatic system, therapists will find that application of heated herbal poultices to key areas of the body also allows the therapist to access the less dense body, which, unlike the physical body, cannot be accessed through the five senses. Bringing the client's awareness to the less dense body frees the client to enter a meditative state, with the opportunity to work on internal healing processes.
